At Mountain View Humane, we are proud to support both pet owners and community cat caregivers through affordable, high-quality spay and neuter services. We know how important Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) efforts are in reducing overpopulation and improving the lives of feral cats—and we’re grateful for the individuals and groups doing this work every day.
We also want to share a clear overview of how our feral cat surgery process works, especially as we navigate current staffing challenges.
Our Primary Mission & Scheduling
Mountain View Humane is a public spay/neuter clinic, which means our surgery schedule is primarily booked in advance for owned pets.
On average, our team can perform about 30 surgeries per day. These appointments are first filled by scheduled clients.
How Feral Cat Surgeries Are Offered
Any surgery appointments that are not booked by the public are made available for feral (community) cats.
These are offered as walk-in appointments only and are not guaranteed.
This means:
- Availability for feral cats depends entirely on open or unfilled surgery slots
- Some days may have little to no availability
- Spots are offered on a first-come, first-served basis
Planning Ahead
If you are traveling a long distance, we strongly encourage you to call ahead: 540-382-0222
You may call the day before to ask about anticipated availability for feral cat surgeries.
- If we are unable to answer, please leave a message
- Our team will return your call as soon as possible
Please note: Our front desk staff does not monitor social media for scheduling questions.
To ensure you receive accurate and timely information, do not message us on social media about surgery availability—calling and leaving a voicemail is the best way to reach us.
Current Capacity & Staffing Challenges
At this time, we are experiencing significant staffing shortages within our veterinary and Licensed Veterinary Technician team.
As a result:
- We have very limited flexibility for additional surgeries
- Feral cat availability may be more limited than in the past
We truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this.
Looking to the Future
We are actively working on ways to improve and streamline the feral cat drop-off process to better serve our community. While these improvements are in progress, they will likely take a few months to implement as we stabilize staffing.
Thank You
We know TNR work is not easy, and we are incredibly grateful for your dedication to helping community cats. Your efforts make a real difference, and we are honored to support you whenever we can.
